Home burials: rare, but possible
This article was just passed along to me, so I thought I would share it, as it touches on the importance of ritual + creating sacred spaces in our modern lives (something quite important to potters throughout art history). I have to add that working on Chris Judd's memorial bells was a deeply meaningful experience, starting with his first visit to the studio with Jason to discuss their personal design hopes and intentions. What followed over the months were many tries, many conversations, and many trips to the mountain and streams that surround the Judd property to dig the clay used on the bells and to think about the project at hand. The result was a unique collaboration with the man for whom the bells are a memorial and a truly special experience for this small town potter. Thank you to the Judds for letting me be a part of it.
