       New Graffiti Series

This new series of work is a departure from the more formal marbled surfaces or polished white porcelain forms that are usually in my studio.

Before firing the marbled white + gray bell, a black iron oxide + manganese slip is painted on and scraped to create an uneven build-up of color. Once the slip is dry, a sharp stylus is used to scratch into the surface to reveal the porcelain below.

After the bisque firing, a glaze pencil is used to graffiti the object with another layer of mark-making. The final firing reveals the sparkling + silvery manganese flecks, the graphite-like line drawings of the glaze pencil, and glimpses of the clear marble surface below it all.
